Petrichord
Wait… what? Isn’t that supposed to be petrichor?
Oh! You haven’t heard of either? Well, petrichor is that pleasant smell of rain in the air, especially accompanying a long dry spell. Petrichord is the name of a lively contradance band comprised of 3 people. Covid was a long dry spell with no dancing and chords are notes played in harmony. Something you get a lot of when playing folk music for contradancing. Put it together and you get Petrichord.
This band is made up of a fiddle, cello and chordal instruments—most often piano, sometimes a mandolin. The three members of this group are Colleen on fiddle, Sophie on cello and Bobby on piano or mandolin.
Both Bobby and Colleen compose tunes for the band.
