So many great caregiver tips! I've never thought about kids as being caregivers also, but of course it makes total sense that they would be. What occurred to me is that if the parent doesn't practice self-care, then the additional children will become the caregiver for the overloaded parent.

Exactly, older children sometimes pick up the slack with younger siblings, with the parent or sibling with a disability, or the parent that is the primary caregiver.

Nancy, thanks for some great tips for caregivers. Noticed holding my breath as I read. Considering children as caregivers—-big overlooked group. Siblings aged 13 and 16, 20 when our dad was treated and succumbed to cancer.

We so often do not realize we put our children in a caregiver role when we are spread thin as primary caregivers. I did it. I tried to keep it to a minimum, but as members of a family, it can just happen.
